December 2025 was quite epic
If you were with us at the BYTOWN SEA SHANTY COLLECTIVE concert held for our community on Friday, December 19th, 2025, then you know what an unforgettable night it turned out to be.
The event had familiar sea shanties, community spirit, and holiday cheer — all in support of the Dalhousie Food Cupboard. Fletcher, Wade, Brian and Chris were in fine form, and the crowd was filled with folks ready to sing and dance along to every offering.
This year, we were in the upstairs cathedral space at St. Brigid’s Centre where we were able to welcome over 600 guests.
The band's original goal of raising $10,000 this year was "blown out of the water" before the doors to the cathedral were opened. More sponsors joined the team - thank you to Mariia Lui (Royal Lepage realtor), George Wamala (Royal Bank), Michael Jones (Earnscliffe Strategies). When the final count was done, over $22,000 was raised - and we cannot thank everyone enough.
One last word: The planning and logistical support of our friends at Tuesday Club of Ottawa and Earnscliffe Strategies working seamlessly with Bytown Sea Shanty Collective the weeks leading up to the concert was instrumental in achieving this success. They were great partners, and we cannot wait to do it all over again in 2026.
Cheers!

SOLD OUT fundraising dinner at Le Poisson Bleu, September 23, 2025
|
We are delighted with the results of the fundraiser dinner held on our behalf by chef Eric Bimm and top-notch Le Poisson Bleu crew on Tuesday September 23rd. There were over 50 guests dining to support this collaborative effort. Ottawa Centre MPP Catherine McKenney agreed to speak from the floor, and they met the call by talking frankly about food insecurity and other affordability challenges. There was so much generosity shared, dinner hosts and local merchants supplied elements for the sumptuous meal. Plus a table full of gifts and prizes for raffle. Support such as this from the community helps us do what we do in the West Ottawa neighborhood we serve.
The food and good mood part of the evening featured a cold brew from Dominion City Brewing Company, followed by our chef serving grilled, dry-aged Steelhead trout, along with local potatoes and seasonal squash. The meal closed with a delicious meringue crafted by Dessert First. If you don't already know, Le Poisson Bleu is located at 610 Somerset St West, corner of Percy. We invite you to reserve a spot there when you are next in the mood to dine with family or friends. |
Dalhousie Courtyard Gardens
|
The Dalhousie Food Cupboard, located at the Bronson Centre, has a thriving garden program that helps grow and tend vegetables for its clients during the gardening season. The program takes place in three courtyards hidden within the Bronson Centre, two of which are inground gardens and one that is devoted to people with mobility issues. This program is primarily for retirees, but everyone is welcome to participate.
Our garden program is inclusive of all ages and abilities, with a focus on drawing seniors (55+) into this process. We hope to host a few class field trips before the school year ends to show younger generations the value of gardening and how to grow their own food. If you're interested in investing time and energy with our gardening team, sign up for info and message alerts at [email protected]. We'd love to have you be a part of our mission to grow healthy, fresh vegetables for our clients. |
Products available for purchase
Our fragrant grapefruit infused soap is locally made. It contains no parabens, no SLS, no synthetic fragrances and no additives. This lathery soap is infused using real grapefruits donated to us by local brewer, Beyond The Pale Brewing Company, after they are zested to make their legendary Pink Fuzz (hence the name). Not only will you be able to indulge in our products, but you'll also be supporting a great cause. All proceeds from the sales of our grapefruit products will go directly to the Dalhousie Food Cupboard to help those in need in our community.
