It's almost spring!!!

We continue to share essential food and grocery items with people in our neighborhood each Wednesday & Thursday from 10:30 am - 1:00 pm from the front entrance at 211 Bronson Avenue.   Some days the weather is a bit cold(er) than we would like, but we bundle up and try to offer quick and efficient service.

If you would like to talk to us, or have any questions, you may call (613) 230-3982 or email info@dalhousiefoodcupboard.ca

WINTER 2021 PEEK INTO THE PANTRY

Ready to go meals

Thanks to our ongoing partnerships with various community supporters, we have been able to provide our clients with some delicious, ready-to-go meals over this past fall. KOWIN Ottawa donated meals with the intention of introducing Korean culture and food more to Canadians, meals donated by Tzu Chi Ottawa aimed to promote and encourage people to eat more vegetables, while Cooking for a Cause Ottawa is a program that started during the pandemic and supports local businesses while also benefiting food bank clients. These three organizations have all generously donated some amazing meals.

Providing clients with ready-to-go meals ensures they are able to enjoy healthy, quality meals, in addition to the grocery items they receive. We are very grateful to these partners for making this possible!

We’re Looking to Grow Our Pink Fuzz Family
What started out as a virtual event during the first days of the pandemic has grown over the last year and a half. Beyond the Pale Brewing (Shop HERE) has continued to be a generous community partner, delivering zested grapefruits regularly. We in turn have partnered with other local businesses, resulting in the deliciously unique Fuzz on Fire hot sauce from Meow That’s Hot (Shop HERE) and the delightfully picante Pink Fuzz Fiesta from Betty’s Pickles (Shop HERE).

For 2022 we’re looking to add members to our family, both by adding new products and finding some amazing new sales partners.

If you’re interested in being a partner with us, or know someone who may want to join our ragtag group of locals looking to make a difference, please let us know. We would be happy to have your support by:
  • Becoming a sales partner and agreeing to carry our products
  • Working with us to create a new product, some ideas being:
    • Grapefruit cocktail syrup
    • Candles
    • Chocolates
    • Candies
    • Soda
    • Soap
    • Kombucha
    • Or just surprise us!

Any interested partner can reach out anytime to James Witherspoon by email james@dalhousiefoodcupboard.ca !

Door Knockers on your doorstep
If you live in our catchment area you might have received one of our door knockers!

Throughout the fall, volunteers were out and about spreading the word about Dalhousie Food Cupboard’s services.

By handing these out in our neighbourhood, we hope to remind people that we are here to help, and also encourage others to share our information if you know anyone in need!
Thank you to Amelie Valois, the amazing local graphic designer who helped us design the door knockers. Check out more of their work here.

New Year, New clothes!
Before the pandemic, Susie’s boutique was a regular fixture indoors at the Dalhousie Food Cupboard. While grabbing groceries, clients were able to also stock up on donated clothes and items, all organized by the amazing Susie.

Susie adapted her boutique to meet the challenges onset by Covid-19, and ran the closet from the trunk of her car.

And, one way or another, this boutique will be returning to the DFC in the new year!

Stay tuned for more details on what the boutique hours will be, as well as opportunities to donate items.

MOO SHU Reindeers for a cause

We are so excited and grateful that Moo Shu Ice Cream is once again supporting Dalhousie Food Cupboard!
Check out the adorable reindeer ice cream cones they will be selling, with $1 from each purchase being donated to us.

“Using pretzels, chocolate chips, and a Swedish berry, we'll turn your ice cream into a reindeer for a $1 donation! Reindeer cones (or cups) will be available starting today until Christmas Eve! These donations are collected for @dalhousiefoodottawa, a Community Food Bank located at the Bronson Centre in Centretown. This wonderful local organization focuses on providing highly nutritious and culturally appropriate foods to neighbours in need, building food literacy and skills, and supporting local producers whenever possible. We worked with them this spring and hope to generate support for them again this winter. Will you join us for cute ice cream and a great cause?”

Go treat yourself to some delicious, holiday ice cream, while supporting our work, at Moo Shu! They are located at 477 Bank St. More information can be found on their website.

Holiday and year-end donations
As we approach the holidays and the end of the year, a time of community and giving back, we hope you’ll consider supporting our work at the Dalhousie Food Cupboard.

Your donations allow us to purchase additional fresh food for our clients. Thanks to various local agencies and community business partners, we are often able to purchase fresh food items at discounted rates, making your donation dollars go farther.

No donation is too small, every gift makes a difference for your neighbours!
