We are looking for passionate and committed individuals to join our volunteer Board of Directors and help address food insecurity in Ottawa.
Each month, our dedicated staff and volunteers support Ottawa households by distributing nutritious food in the West Centretown neighbourhood that includes the diverse demography of Somerset and Preston Streets.
Dalhousie Food Cupboard operates as a small, determined team. We are seeking a few additional community leaders who want to improve the well-being of our neighbourhood while helping to guide and position the organization for the future.
We are particularly on the lookout for individuals who are interested in one of the following key roles:
1. FUNDRAISING LEAD
We’re eager to welcome an energetic, experienced fundraising lead to help deliver revenue-generating events, campaigns and initiatives to help us balance our annual budget.
As the Board Director responsible for fundraising, you will:
This role is ideal for someone with experience in fundraising, business development, sales, marketing, community engagement, or relationship building who wants to apply their skills to a meaningful cause.
2. PRESIDENT
We are preparing for a smooth leadership transition as our current President plans to retire in the coming year. If you enjoy bringing people together, collaborating with fellow board members, volunteers, staff and community partners, and pitching in wherever needed, this role offers a practical way to stay engaged after retiring from the workforce. It is equally suitable for someone whose work schedule allows occasional daytime meetings or events.

Your donations throughout the year allow us to buy more fresh foods to fill baskets (bags) for our neighbours. Most weeks, this includes bread, fruits, vegetables and ethnocultural foods. You should also know that Mai, our food bank's Coordinator - pictured below - always makes sure that we get value for these purchases!
If you are donating shelf-stable food or garden harvest, call ahead (613) 230-3982 to make sure someone is on site to meet you.

This includes maximizing our budget dollars to purchase only nutrient-rich fresh fruits, vegetables and legumes, healthy pantry items and meal supplements for our clients with special needs.

This includes maximizing our budget dollars to purchase only nutrient-rich fresh fruits, vegetables and legumes, healthy pantry items and meal supplements for our clients with special needs.
We are committed to the following:
- Purchasing and accepting large donations of only healthy food with high nutritional value
- Focusing on providing culturally appropriate foods to meet the needs of the clients we serve
- Limiting or removing from our shelves items with no nutritional value
- Providing opportunities to improve food literacy and skills by providing recipes and nutritional information, whenever possible
- Purchasing from local merchants and producers, whenever possible
